Snoop Dogg (Long Beach) and Mark Gonzales (East Los Angeles) are saluting Los Angeles through a collaborative effort with adidas Skateboarding. Going from mountainous to seaside, the city is home to numerous subcultures, several of which intersect to drive the design of the collection.
Prior to the collection Snoop and Gonz first crossed paths on the west side of Los Angeles. Here is how Gonz describes the meeting…
I met Snoop way back in the early 90s in Westwood, California at a 7-Eleven. At the time I thought, ya know, he’s cool we could totally be friends and now it’s 2016 and here we are working together and collaborating on this shoe.
The collection is dubbed LA Stories consists of a hoodie, long-sleeve shirt, t-shirt and the Matchcourt Mid.
The collection is inspired by the the duo’s deep connection to Los Angeles style beginning with a customized Matchcourt Mid. Constructed with a full-grain, buttery cream leather upper, the shoe features the iconic three stripes in a blue hue, custom sockliner, gold eyelets and is detailed with signature artwork by Gonz on the outsole. In the 90s, plaid flannels were wardrobe staples for Snoop and Gonz and the digitized plaid tongue and heel overlay designed straight from Gonz’s iPad was its inspiration. Gonz’ custom artwork also appears on the limited edition hoodie, long sleeve shirt and t-shirt featuring lowriders and graffiti lettering.
The Snoop x Gonz collection will launch on the 5th of December through adidas dealers and adidas.com US.
Two revolutionary personalities in pop culture, Snoop Dogg and Gonz bring the best of skateboarding and hip-hop to the ‘LA Stories’ series with a legacy in Southern California street culture reaching back 30 years. A genuine friendship sparked by a mutual affinity for the LA music and skate scene, the duo releases the first video in the ‘LA Stories’ series which focuses on how youth in their neighborhoods responded to the arrival of the ice cream truck on hot summer days. The complete opposite of the typical storyline, Snoop Dogg and Gonz share their comedic narration on what happens when the ice cream truck breaks down in the ‘hood’.
