adidas Originals is dedicating its latest I-5923 and ZX 500 RM drops to a bizarre moment in Olympic Games history.

In 1972, American marathon runner Frank Shorter was leading the pack as he neared the Munich Olympic Stadium. But before he reached the end, an imposter entered the race, crossing the finish line to a cheering crowd. When Shorter finished, the crowd had calmed down but he knew that he was the victor because, he had out paced all other runners for the last 15 kilometers of the race.

The I-5923 from the collection is dressed in collegiate royal blue with xxxx on the tongue to represent the race. The number that Shorter wore during the race, 1014 is featured on the tongue of the ZX 500 RM in bold gold.

The kicks are currently listed on 43einhalb as “coming soon”.
