One of the most memorable political statements made by an Olympic was at the Mexico City games in 1968 by US athlete Tommie Smith. Smith raised his fist in solidarity against racism against blacks in the US and abroad. French urban culture group La MJC has organized an evening to celebrate Smith and mark the introduction of a line of kicks by Puma honoring him. 50 free passes are up for grabs to event transportation not included. As an added benefit De La Soul will perform live. The kicks are set to release very soon in France and around the globe.

Puma “Tommie Smith” Suede Collection
One of the most recognized political gestures to take place in Olympic history in 1968 when the American track athlete Tommie Smith Held his fist in the air while barefoot on the first place podium during the playing of the national anthem. He was banned for his political statement, which called attention to oppression faced by black people during the era. Adidas is honoring Smith a collection of Suedes, which feature a fist monogram. The first pair in black will release latter this month while the Red Suede will release in August 2008.
