Kicks & Cake: Sneaker Market | 6th of December

In June, the Kicks & Cake sneaker market took place in Cologne, Germany. The sneaker market is again gearing up to take place in Cologne, on the 6th of December 2009.

Vendor registration is now open on the Kicks and Cake site.

Head to the Hallmackenreuther Cafe in Cologne on the 6th of December 2009 to sell, buy, trade, and network with sneakerheads.

Oqium Barcelona | Grand Re-Opening / Re-Cap

As we reported last week Barcelona premium sneaker shop Oqium Barcelona was gearing to re-open its doors at a new location.

On Halloween, the shop opened its doors to a crowd of Barcelona sneaker heads. On display and on sale where a nice mix of this seasons Nike Sportswear releases and Jordan Brand kicks.

Keds Chukka Suede / Pro Keds Royal Lo CVS | Winter 2009

A few years back Hip Hop mogul Damon Dash took the reigns at Keds. The brand then tried to evolve its image from classic footwear to edgy sneakers in the vein of the Nike Air Force 1 and Bape.

Keds has shed its edgy look and now has embraced the minimalist trend in footwear. Frankly, the brand’s look is more at home in this setting, which is evident from the winter 2009 releases of the Keds Chukka Suede and Pro Keds Royal Lo CVS. You can find them at shops such as California based Huf.

DJ Muro, famous DJ, record collector and acknowledged King of Digging, got his own signature boot by Timberland.

The seven hole boot, with boat shoe elements, is constructed in black nubuck and lumberjack red tweed on the upper. A red stripe at the midsole as well as golden lacelits and Timberland logo add some extra hit to the boot.

For those that like matching the sneaker to the outfit (and vice versa) a New Era cap, zipper hoodie and long sleeve T-shirt are available too!
The Timberland x DJ Muro Boot is available on November 7th at Kinetics JP exclusively.

German based fashion label Acronym co-founder Errolson Hugh has been blessed with a pair of Nike Blazers and Nike Dunk High AC. The kicks both come in charcoal colorways which blend wool and leather to construct the sneaker. The kicks are a gift from Nike to Hugh and feature the Acronym logo on the heel and tongue.

Sizeeleven.com | Erik Börjesson Letting Go Of His Sneakers

Erik Börjesson, co-founder of SNS and avid sneaker collector, is letting go of a huge amount of his personal sneaker collection.
As he states on Sizeeleven.com he has been collecting sneakers for 16 years now. Since the numbers of pairs went past 600 he decided to let go of many of them.

Eriks size is size 11. That is the reason why the sneakers for sale are US size 10.5 to 11.
At the moment about 400 pairs of Adidas, Nikes, Jordans, NBs, Reeboks, Pumas and other brands can be found online. Rumors have it that Erik still has about 300 more pairs that he will put up in the near future.

If you wear around size 11 and are on the lookout for some hard to find kicks you better be quick and check out the Sizeeleven.com rather soon than later.

Oqium Barcelona | Grand Re-Opening 31st of October

Oqium is a fixture in Paris for limited Air Jordan and Nike Sportswear sneakers. The shop recently expanded to the Netherlands opening Oqium Rotterdam, however the second shop of the Oqium empire is located in Barcelona.

The shop has moved to a new address, and is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday on the 31st of October.

At the grand reopening expect to find the Nike Air Yeezy and Air Jordan models.

In terms of major releases this weekend saw the release of the Nike Air Max Lebron VII, the 7th signature sneaker from Lebron James and first in the line to feature an Air Max sole.

While the Air Jordan 12 Retro “Rising Sun” is currently available in Europe, the sneakers was expected to release this weekend however the release has been pushed back.

Copenhagen based sneaker shop Norse Projects also premiered its collaborative New Balance 670 this weekend.

The Hundreds | Holiday 2009 Sneaker Collection

Los Angeles based street-wear brand, The Hundreds, this week released three sneakers models in various colors and builds as part of their Holiday 2009 collection. Included in the collection are the Johnson Mid, Johnson Low, and the Venezuela Low. The materials used for the holiday collection include suede, nubuck, and buckskin rawhide leather. The sneakers are now available in Los Angeles and San Francisco at The Hundreds.

Lakai | Guy Mariano Hi, Carroll Select Hi and Manchester Select | Fall 2009

Here are three new releases from Lakai limited Footwear.

Mike Carrolls sneaker, the Carroll Select Hi, comes with a mix of black suede and nubuck on the upper with white vulcanized sole and white logo on the side panel.

A bit more powerful in terms of color is the Guy Mariano Hi which has a red suede upper with structured leather towards the back. The grey and black hits add up to the overall look pretty well.

Last but not least is the lowtop Manchester Select. Again a bit more of purist designed this sneaker comes with brown suede for the upper, white sole, black sockliner and orange hits on the back and tongue.

All three are available at select Lakai retailers and at Stil-Laden.

Emerica x No Age | Laced / The Archer

Los Angeles based indie rock duo No Age has collaborated on several sneakers with skate brand Emerica. Los Angeles based shop Millennium just got in two kicks from the collection.

One of the sneakers is the Emerica The Archer, which comes in grey shade of purple with minimal accents that are most prominently seen on the tongue in red, yellow and blue reading “No Age”.

The Emerica Laced features a more vibrant look with an abstract design in green, blue and red.

NYC native Bobbito Garcia is synonymous with New York City urban culture from Hip Hop to basketball of course sneakers. Garcia has hooked up with Pro Keds on a collection of the brand’s Royal Flash model. The collection consists of four colorways in suede of the model ranging from yellow, olive, orange, and plum.

Sneakerness Vienna 2009 | Recap and Video

On October 10th 2009 Vienna was the focal point of sneakerculture for one day.
Sneakerness made its way from switzerland across the boarder to Austria’s capital city and with them they brought people from all across Europe, Great Britain, USA and even South Africa.

The expectations were quite high but without any doubt Sergio Muster, founder and organizer of Sneakerness, was able to meet them.

The Convention opened its gates to sneakerheads at 1 p.m. although lines persisted until 2:30 p.m. because of the overwhelming response.

Inside visitors were presented with sneakers and art by exhibitors like Nike, Reebok, Puma, Adidas, New Balance, Pro Keds amongst others.

Not only could you check out what the industry is coming up with in the next few months, you also had the opportunity to buy kicks either at one of the shops (Stil-Laden, Zapateria, Fame,…) or at one of the retail tables that provided vintage to state of the art foot candy.

Nike presented different styles of the Air Max 1 model, which is celebrating a renaissance this year. Amongst the exhibited models, a very special, never released and ultra rare Parra custom was there to be admired. The sneaker was originally influenced in its design by Albert Heijn’s (Amsterdam’s largest and most renowned shopping center) shopping bag colors. Parra chose the colors because they represent Amsterdam and he wanted the kicks to stay true to the city. But after the 20 sample pieces were made Albert Heijn changed its corporate colors, which made Parra decide not to let the Air Max 1 be released.

Another special Air Max 1 on hand was the OG red/white colorway with Tinker Hatfield’s signature, provided by Berlin based Overkill.

Also we had the chance to chat with the guys from Reebok that introduced most of their models that are going to be released as part of next year’s spring/summer collection (we will report on them later!).

Brands like New Balance, Puma , Kangaroos and Pro Keds also sent their representatives, which were also available for a chat and dropped information about current and upcoming projects.

Art connoisseurs were provided with designs from El Lasso/Inoperable (who designed the Nike exhibition box) and GabyGaby who I literally “ran” into. I had the chance to chat with the talented and well-known artist from the Netherlands and capture that on tape. You can check the interview in our recap Video, and hear about some interesting sneaker related projects he has cooking up.

The most remarkable thing besides all the sneakers and art put together into one place was the audience. The mix of so many different people from different parts of the world that came for one reason and one passion, sneakers.

This cultural blend with a common denominator provided a relaxed and laid back vibe, although people were quite anxious about someone stepping on their kicks. Words, images, and videos captured the basic elements of the day, however the collective experience can only be experienced first hand.

Knowing that I can only recommend you to visit next years sneakerness, which will take place in Germany.

New Sneaker Releases:

One of the nicer sneakers to release this week was Jeff Staple’s contribution to the Converse 1HUND(RED) project to benefit the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. Sadly the Converse Seastar x Staple Design x 1HUND(RED) is available only in New York City at Reed Space.

Paris based artist Fafi’s contribution to the fall / winter 2009 adidas Originals by Originals began to release this week with the availability of the adidas Honey Mid x Fafi and the adidas Stan Smith Velcro x Fafi. This is just the beginning, expect three more sneakers and apparel to release in the coming future.

With the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead just weeks away, Nike released the Day of the Dead pack as a quickstrike this weekend. Included in the pack are the Nike Air Max 90 “Day of the Dead”, Nike Dunk High “Day of the Dead”, and the Nike Dunk Low “Day of the Dead”.

This weekend the Nike Zoom Tiempo “Cutters” Pack widely released to shops with Nike Tier Zero accounts. A video also surfaced, which showcased the sneaker on a trek from London to Paris by seven prominent urban cyclists.

Earlier this year Berlin based Solebox collaborated with Saucony on a pair of A3’s. The two sneaker entities have hooked up again. This time the pair have created a sneaker, which combines the upper of the Saucony Shadow 90 on the sole of the Shadow 5000. The upper comes in black with red accents on a white midsole on a grey outsole.

Expect to be able to find the sneakers between November and December.

Sneakerness 10th October, Vienna/Austria | Nike Update

As you might already know the Sneakerness convention is coming to Vienna/Austria (Europe) this saturday, October 10th (we have covered this earlier). And since the countdown is ticking down the last days faster and faster you can feel the excitement already here in Vienna.

Today we got some additional information from Nike about what we can expect to be presented at the convention from them:
The main focus is on the classic Tinker Hatfield Nike Air Max 1, which celebrates it’s 20th anniversary this year.
Therefore the a never released Air Max 1 designed by Netherlands own infamous streetart stylist and sneakerhead Parra will be presented. Also pictures and the stories of Parra and the Air Max 1 will be exhibited.

Besides Parra, famous viennese residents like DJ Buzz (Waxolutionists), DJ Beware and Florian Horwath will share insight on how the classic sneaker had impact on their lifes.

Visitors can check into the NikeID lab at the spot and design their own personal sneaker.
In order to represent Vienna Nikes exibition booth will be designed by El Lasso, from Inoperable.

New Sneaker Releases

This week we saw the release of two Nike Air Force 1 Lows. the Eddie Cruz Nike West Air Force 1 Low and a Nike Air Force 1 Low in reptile embossed navy leather. Both kicks are definitely premium in terms of build and design.

The black upper is divided into the suede toebox and canvas sidepanel and back.

BePositive Brogue Brush Off (Wingtip)

Italian based brand BePositive has fused to opposing styles of footwear, running shoes and dress shoes. The upper of their creation comes in dark brown leather in a form of the classic Brogue or Wingtip dress shoe model. The midsole and outsole of sneaker bear a striking similarity to the Nike Air Max 1 with their visible air unit towards the heel.

The sneakers are now available in Denmark at Norse for 173 euros.

Sebago Docksides x Cool Cats | Now Available

Earlier this month we gave you a preview of the Sebago Docksides by the Paris collective Cool Cats. The boat shoes come in black leather with multi-colored eyelets created by So-Me of the Cool Cats. Right now the shoes are available in Paris at Colette in both men’s and women’s sizes for 165 euros. The kicks are limited 75 pairs so don’t procrastinate if you want to pick these up.

Skateboarding brand Dekline associated with Jason Lee has just collaborated with Hip Hop super group, the Wu-Tang Clan. The kicks come in black and yellow colorway, signature Wu colors. The kicks, which have been dubbed “Killerbee” feature a Wu-Tang logo on the tongue and the heel. The sneakers will be available on the 25th of September in Los Angeles at Millennium.

Onitsuka Tiger has just released their Himalayan Tiger Pack, which consits of two hybrid hiking x sneaker models.

They are available in either orange/turqoise or brown/light green.
Both have a suede upper with contrast color sock liner and stitching. The lace lets are made of metal, as it is common for hiking boots, and the Onitsuka Tiger Logo stripes are made of leather.
The sneakers offer padded ankle protection.

Nike Air Yeezy Doernbecher Auction Closed

We assume you have already heard about the Nike Air Yeezy Charity Auctions for the Doernbecher Kids Hospital that took place on ebay over the past two weeks.

Yesterday the auctions were closed and the good news is that a lot of money changed posession for the sneakers. To be precise:
The Nike Air Yeezy Grammy 2008 was sold for the ridiculous amount of $16.500.
The Nike Air Yeezy x Air Jordan VI (6) sole got as high as $7.400.

That makes a total of $23.900 for the Doernbecher Hospital.

At the moment no information on who won the auction is available.

Berlin based sneaker shop Solebox has been very busy recently with a slew of collaborative sneaker releases. The releases have ranged from Pro Keds to adidas and New Balance.

Now the sneaker shop has posted teaser images of their next sneaker collaboration that don’t give a very clear idea of what they have in mind. We will keep you posted when we have more information.

As the fall season is now in full swing, we see another pack of sneakers designed around the theme of the great outdoors. The classic Saucony Shadow 6000 runner is the model of choice for the pack. As you can imagine, the sneakers come in natural base tones like brown, green and grey with popping contrast tones like red, orange and yellow.

The midsoles feature a speckled look and the inner-lining maintain the outdoors theme. Check your local shops that carry Saucony sneakers for availability.

Drawing inspiration from a certain sneaker silhouette or even taking the complete sneaker to create something new with its design is nothing new anymore. We all know the story of examples like the Bapestas, ALIFE Everybody Hi’s, …

Now a new sneaker from MACKDADDY has released. After taking a first look at it, it is kind of obvious that inspiration in terms of design was drawn from Air Jordan III (3)’s. Proportions may vary, but for the main part one can tell that this must have been the influental sneaker!

The MACKDADDY Mack Boyz Shoe comes in two different synthetics upper colorways beeing black and red. On the tongue the a “M” with a Skate banner is embossed.

They are availble at select retailers that hold MACKDADDY products like arkwax (JP)

Sneaker Previews

This week we learned that the release date for the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam” had been moved from late November to right before Christmas.

This week word dropped that Stockholm based sneaker shop Sneakers N’ Stuff was working New Balance on 10th anniversary RGB pack. The pack includes the New Balance 577, 1500, and 1700.

We recently posted about the Pro Keds Royal Low created in collaboration with Berlin based Solebox. The kicks come in a black canvas upper with red accents on the top eyelet, pull-tabs and toe of the midsole. The kicks released this weekend and are now available in Paris at Colette for 70 euros.

Adidas & Puma end 60 year Feud with Football Match

If you know about the history of adidas and Puma you are undoubtably aware of the feud between Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler. In the 1920’s the two brothers created a company producing athletic footwear, however just after the end of the Second World War the company was dissolved.

In 1948, Adi Dassler set up adidas and Rudolf Dassler set up Puma in the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach. The rivalry extended to the entire town based on employment.

Sadly the two brothers never reconciled their differences. However, the two companies they started are making peace with a friendly football match between the two companies in Herzogenaurach, where the rivalry is still alive. The event marks the first time the two companies have ever collaborated in their 60 year existence.

The match is set for tomorrow the 21st of September.

Today, neither side of the Dassler family plays a major role in either brand with Puma owned by French luxury conglomerate PPR and adidas is a publicly traded company with a diverse ownership.

The shoes have experienced revision in terms of materials. Only high value materials as premium leather and suede were used for the pack.

The Coda Hi comes in a bold royal blue or brown premium leather with white vulc sole while the Manchester has a mainly suede upper with premium leather panels in colors black or grey.

They compiled a Top 100 Sneaker Chart of what they think are the highlights within that period.

Worth mentioning at last is that the Top 10 of the charts are strictly dominated by Nike and Air Jordan models.

Saucony Jazz “Red Star”

The classic Saucony Jazz runner, seen here sporting a soviet industrial look has just released and is available at Aberdeen based Hanon.

The sneakers take their look from “The Red Star” graphic novel series by Christian Gossett. The series chronicles tales set in post World War II Soviet Russia. The kicks take on the imagery with prominent use of Soviet Union imagery.

The kicks are now available at select sneaker shops around the globe limited to an 800 pair release.

The latest project is a take on the Keep Shasheen in a in a tan, grey, brown, blue and orange colorway. The upper is vegan friendly constructed in synthetic suede resting on a vulcanized sole. The sneakers are set to release on the 19th of September at select sneakers shops around the globe.

Gravis Dylan Mid | Brown/Green and Green/Beige

Gravis‘ Dylan Mid sneaker is clearly influenced by this years trend of blending classic shoe designs with sneaker components.

The sneakers upper is made of canvas material in green or brown.
The green version has the wingtip component we have already seen on some releases of other brands earlier this year, while the brown one comes in plain design.

The wingtip at the front gives the sneaker a more grown man feel without making it look too exquisite for sneaker (!) heads.
Both share the leather accents at the tongue and towards the back.

By adding contrasting sockliner colors Gravis managed to add some pop to the sneaker. But if that is too subtle for you, you can simply switch the lace color for additional hits.

In terms of Nike Tier Zero releases, four sneakers released to the most select sneaker shops this weekend.

Michael Jordan: Basketball Hall of Fame Ceremony

On Friday the 11th of September, Michael Jordan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The event also honored David Robinson, Jerry Sloan, John Stockton and C. Vivian Stringer.

Jordan gave a speech were he discussed his career, family and milestones. During the speech Jordan was moved to tears seeing the culmination of years of hard work and success, which lead to the ultimate recognition of the being inducted into the Hall of Fame as the Greatest player who ever played the game.

Paris based design collective Cool Cats recently hooked up with fashion label Sebago. The Sebago Docksides come in black leather with multi-colored eyelets . The kicks have been dubbed the “Paris Lucky Number” with a release limited to 75 pairs.

The danish foot- and sportswear company Hummel positioned themselves in the Handball sportsmarket pretty well.

Now they released a retro model of the Stadil High.

The Stadil Online is constructed in leather upper with suede accents at the toe cap and heel. They are available in Online Lime Green/Red/Blue leather, white/red/blue leather and black/orange/green leather.
All three feature a stichted Handball Logo on the tongue.

Michael Jordan Poster x Shepard Fairey

Street artist Shepard Fairey originally gained fame as the designer behind Obey. Recently Fairey’s prominence was elevated to the mainstream with his “Hope” Obama graphic used to support the election of Barack Obama.

Fairey’s latest project is a 18″ x 24″ poster of Michael Jordan in mid flight going towards the rim, produced in layered stencil. The moment of the announcement of the poster coincides with MJ’s entry into the basketball hall of fame.

Hopefully, we will see these covering walls in cities around the world very soon.

IPATH Langston | Spring 2010 Preview

Here is a preview of an upcoming new sneaker release from skate brand IPATH. The new model is called the Langston and features a desert boot style on the upper and rest on a vulcanized sole.

The kicks are set for an initial release as part of the IPATH spring 2010 collection. The kicks will release in three styles, one in a hemp construction in a coffee brown colorway and the other constructed in suede in both grey and sesame colorways.

Just two months ago that Berlin based sneaker shop Solebox had hooked up with footwear brand Keds. Now we have an update on the project. The sneaker still have not released but we do have a release date, which is set for the 19th of September.

The Pro Keds Royal Low comes in a canvas construction in black, white, with red accents. When the sneakers do release you can get them online at Solebox.

The native american inspired Mocassin style Chukka boot comes in a rugged look with suede on the upper and the typical stitchings around the toebox.

Details on the ankle and metal lacetips round up the mocassin concept of the shoe.

Onitsuka Tigers classic model from back in 1976, the Vickka, is now re-released in a simple and purist two color suede upper.
Navy and Jester Red are the colors of choice for the shoes which are contrasted by silver accents on the red sneaker and white on the blue one.

Both have the structured white midsole, white stitchings on the upper and perforations at the toe box.

They are now available at Retailers that hold Onitsuka Tiger like Size for $90.
