Puma Soda Pack | Basket II / First Round

Soda packaging from bottles to cans has seeped into our conscious as they are seen everywhere from billboards to magazines and in our iceboxes.

Puma has taken design cues from iconic soda branding including 7-Up, Coca-Cola, Root Beer, Pepsi, and Fanta.

Earlier today we posted the four colorways of the Puma Basket II from the pack. Thanks to a heads up from friends at Andamos Armados, we have a look at the full collection.

In its entirety the collection includes 12 sneakers, 6 Puma Basket II's and 6 Puma First Round.

Puma Basket II | Soda Pack

In August, the Puma First Round "Soda" Pack released with one pair in a colorways inspired by lemon-lime and orange soda.

The Puma Basket II has now gotten the soda treatment with pairs inspired by Diet Coke, Coca-Cola, Root Beer and Orange soda.

Nike

Today Nike has an elevated status, in terms of athletic and casual footwear. This dominance began had humble beginnings with a relationship between University of Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman and student-athlete Phil Knight.

Bowerman was a strong believer in the relationship between performance and quality equipment was himself a shoe maker on a small scale, which coaching.

Phil Knight eventually went to Stanford University were he earned an MBA. While at Stanford Knight got the idea that quality Asian produced sneakers could compete with with German brands Puma and adidas in the US.

Knight then began a distribution deal with Japanese brand Onitsuka Tiger, which later became Asics.

Knight and Bowerman then began the Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964, which served as a sneaker retailer that directly marketed and sold to athletes from Knight's trunk.

In 1968, the Bill Bowerman designed sneaker originally called Mexico released. The sneaker would go on to be called the Aztec and eventually it was called the Cortez.

In 1970, Bowerman develops the concept rubber waffle spikes to increase the grip of the sole.

Following Bowerman's design innovation in 1972, Blue Ribbon Sports and Onitsuka Tiger end their business relationship. Around this same time RBS begins using the names Nike and the Swoosh on their sneakers.

By 1978, RBS had developed a collection of runners with waffle soles and garnered celebrity endorsements. 1978 also saw the name change of the brand from from RBS to Nike. Nike Air technology was also first developed in 1978, which gave the sole of sneaker's a better cushioning system.

In 1979, the Nike Tailwind released as the first sneaker to incorporate Air Technology.

In 1982, the Nike Air Force 1 released as the first basketball sneaker to release, which incorporated Air technology.

In 1985, the legendary Air Jordan first released, the signature sneaker of Michael Jordan.

Puma First Round Mesh / Red and Blue | 2010 Release

No this is not a deja vu. Puma is just serious about the First Round and will release another variation of the classic basketball shoe.

This time the First Round has a mesh and nubuck upper with patent leather on the back. The kicks will be available in both blue and red colorways in 2010.

Puma First Round Vulc | 2010 Release Preview

We featured the Puma First Round "Soda Pack" and the "S Mix Ltd. Ed. Pack" last week. Here is a variation of this model that is going to be released in 2010.

The Puma First Round Vulc has a vulcanized sole and leather upper. They are going to be released in a black/white/red and a white/silver/black colorway. Both kicks have a star burst / Japanese pattern on the side panel.

Puma First Round | S Mix Limited Edition Pack

It has been only three days since we posted the Puma First Round Soda Pack. This time we have a look at the "S Mix Limited Edition Pack". Both sneakers in the pack are made of a nice mix of leather, canvas and patent leather.

One comes in a black/neon green and the other in a grey/black colorway.

A bit more than a month after we posted the Puma First Round Limited Edition Pack we present you the "Soda Pack". The sneakers come in a soda inspired colorways, in both lemon / lime and orange with white midsole and patent leather accents on the heel.
