This Week In Kicks

This week in sneaker news had an interesting mix of stories. The most scandalous involving Big Boi from Outkast. Apparently Big Boi while performing at a Sneaker Pimps event was rocking some fake Air Jordan VIII's.

The story really blew up when the MC was featured in an article about sneaker culture in general but also its relation to Hip-Hop. Sneaker site Nice Kicks caught up with Dave Jeff and DJ Clark Kent of Sneaker Pimps, who gave their perspective the matter. Both gave really good insight into the different aspects of the sneaker culture, check out the interview.

This whole affair reminds me of a recent Wall Street Journal that the economic downturn has hit rappers who rock ice so hard that some have resorted to using cubic zirconia in their jewels.

In terms of sneaker previews, sneaker forums and blogs lit up over image confirmation of the summer release of the Air Jordan III "True Blue". Unfortunately for those State side, word has it that the sneakers August release will only be in Asia, Canada and Europe. We will have to wait and see if this is in fact rumor or truth.

The week started with a preview of the Nike SB June 2009 sneaker releases.

Some really nice OG colorways of some retro classics became available for purchase and were previewed including the following:

Nike Air Max 97 | Original Colorway Retro

New Balance 577 | Original Colorway

New Balance M577 CB | Moss Grey / OG Colorway

Nike Air Max 180 “Ultramarine” | Original Colorway

As part of the Adidas Originals collection comes the Tournament Edition pack, which includes four classic kicks made for the tennis court. Among the sneakers are the Adidas Stan Smith Vintage, Nastase Super, and the Adidas Grand Slam Vintage. The jewel of the collection however is the Adidas Lendl Comp Vintage, which is making its return for the year.

The unifying theme of the pack outside of the fact that they are all tennis sneakers with tennis rackets in metallic gold on the tongues, is the use of premium white leather on the upper of all the kicks.
